Fu Nagasawa

Born in 1999 in Kochi, Japan.
Nagazawa’s artistic focus lies in everyday paintings such as decorated plates, sliding door paintings, and folk paintings rooted in daily life. The patterns and prayers depicted in these works embody not only ornamentation but also functions closely tied to people’s lives. Growing up around his father, a craftsman, shaped his attitude of “thinking of others through tools and images,” which has become central to his practice.

In recent years, he has been drawn to paintings and folk objects from the Joseon dynasty, contemplating past lives and sentiments through them. By drawing tense lines on cotton fabric and layering woodblock prints, he engages in a dialogue with the anonymous artisans of history. Through this process, his paintings gradually emerge, embracing chance and transformation. His work seeks to reinterpret the shared aesthetic sensibilities of East Asia in the present, reconsidering what painting can be today.
