EE_Park: TURN OFF THE 5 PARADIGM LIGHTS

GCmagazine, a collective of young artists, makes work that interrogates the myth of the “decisive moment” and the norms inherent in photographic expression. GCmagazine presents an installation titled TURN OFF THE 5 PARADIGM LIGHTS.

This work centers on a performance in which members pushed a vehicle around Suzuka Circuit in the middle of summer, with video and photographic documentation of the process. Featuring a vehicle with vinyl wrapping of a photograph taken during the performance, in addition to specially designed racing suits that function as a color chart, the work questions “the value of process in labor in the context of photography.”

On the opening day of the exhibition, the group will present a performance involving the actual manual transport of the vehicle into the venue. This is representative of GCmagazine’s unique experimental approach, in which they go beyond photography’s role as a visual medium to encompass the groups physicality, action, and even the exhibition method.
