4649 + 18, Murata

“4649 is a curatorial project established in 2018 by Shogo Shimizu, Yuhei Kobayashi, and Yuu Takamizawa, and is also the name of a gallery space located in Sugamo, Tokyo.
4649 is a platform aimed at fostering exchange between contemporary art scenes in Tokyo and other cities, based on projects and curation rooted in the interests of each artist’s practice and research. At the Tokyo space, the focus is primarily on exhibitions featuring artists from other countries and cities, while off-site projects actively introduce Tokyo-based artists.
Notable exhibitions include Raiki Yamamoto (2024), Tojiba CPU Corp (2024), Motoko Ishibashi (2023), Contrastissimo (2020), and Alex Mackin Dolan and Jasper Spicero (2019). The gallery has also participated in events such as Supper Club Hong Kong (2025), Feria Material (2024), June Art Fair (2023), and presentations at the NADA Miami project booth (2018–2021).”

18, Murata
A gallery based in Oimachi, Tokyo. They organize exhibitions and events featuring both domestic and international artists. Originally launched in 2017 as “mumei” at a shared studio in Kiyosumi-Shirakawa,
the space reopened under a new name in Ōimachi in 2024. They have since organized exhibitions featuring artists such as Barbara Signer, Shiho Saito, Margherita Raso, Fumimaro Ayano and Yuu Takamizawa. Since 2024, they have also launched “Numanohashi Residency,” an artist-in-residence program developed in collaboration with both domestic and international artists and galleries. The program offers artists from Japan and abroad opportunities for stays and creative work, while also fostering engagement with the local community and facilitating international cultural exchange.
