COHJU

Founded in 2008 by owner Hideyuki Nishieda, the gallery is located in Marutamachi, Kyoto—an area rich in history and culture with views of the Kyoto Imperial Palace—within a building designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa. Since 2014, in response to the growing vitality of Kyoto’s art scene driven by emerging artists, the gallery has focused on promoting up-and-coming talents based in the Kansai region. In addition to organizing around five exhibitions annually, the gallery also holds group shows featuring outstanding recent graduates and actively participates in numerous art fairs both in Japan and abroad. Through these activities, the gallery continues to present cutting-edge projects to the global art scene.
