Takumi Miyashita

Born in 1998, Miyashita creates works that transform vases into characters, inspired by the video games and manga he loved as a child. By merging the traditional medium of ceramics with contemporary pop culture, he has developed a unique expression that bridges the “old” and the “new” in Japanese culture. His practice combines the physical and material qualities of pottery with the immaterial sensibilities of digital culture, embodying the spirit of an era existing between the real and the virtual. Each work also serves as a self-portrait, borrowing the form of a vase that possesses both utilitarian and sculptural qualities, allowing it to blend naturally into its surroundings while maintaining a distinct presence. Using clay — a material that endures through time — Miyashita aims to create works that, like Buddhist statues, bring comfort to viewers and continue to emit positive energy.
