Akihito Takuma was born in Kumamoto, Japan in 1966, and received his MA in Art Education from the Graduate School of Education, Shiga University in 1993. He is currently based in Kanagawa, Japan.
His series titled “Lines of Flight,” which is also the title of his artworks, explores the concept proposed by the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze, whom Takuma admires. The term “escape” used here carries no negative connotations but rather signifies “liberation” or “departure.” The “lines” also encompass the meaning of “circuits,” and the countless linear forms created by brush strokes not only inject noise into the regulated and rigid systems of contemporary society but also symbolize a connection to the restoration of human nature.
