Talk: SCAN THE WORLD

ハンディスキャナで街をスキャニングするプロジェクト「SCAN THE WORLD」は一体どのように理解可能なのだろうか。「SCAN THE WORLD」は、ハンディスキャナを活用したメディア・アートでもあり、一般にひらかれた参加型のリレーショナル・アートでもあり、あるいはスケートボードやグラフィティのような都市空間の間隙をハックするストリートの遊びでもある。「SCAN THE WORLD」発起人の石毛健太とBIEN、金沢21世紀美術館で開催中のSCAN THE WORLDによる展示〔NEW GAME〕をキュレーションした髙木遊に加えて、写真家・美術展企画・音楽評論家であり、Live House PEPPERLANDを主宰する能勢伊勢雄を招き、「SCAN THE WORLD」というプロジェクトの持つ射程について議論していく。

BIEN

BIEN was born in 1993. He creates abstract paintings and installations based on unique drawings influenced by a range of practices including street culture, animation, and toy figurines. In his work, BIEN retraces the forms of prevailing texts, symbols, and characters from manga and anime with his dynamic linework. He dismantles and reconfigures symbolic meanings through inheriting street culture and animation’s modes of expression. Recent exhibitions include Rebel Without a Cause, Watarium, Tokyo, 2018; PARALLEL ARCHEOLOGY, OIL by Bijutsutecho Gallery, Tokyo, 2020; and DUSKDAWNDUST, PARCEL, HARUKAITO by island, Tokyo, 2021.

ISHIGE Kenta

ISHIGE Kenta is an artist and exhibition maker born in 7 1994. ISHIGE earned an MFA from the Oil Painting Department at Tokyo University of the Arts. In addition to his solo practice, he has been engaged in project-based activities with SCAN THE WORLD, Urban Research Group, and Installments. Growing up in a suburban “new town” has become a foundation for his practice, which focuses on rethinking cities and suburbs and finding alternate readings of established narratives. Recent exhibitions include Le Jardin Convivial, Kyoto Botanical Gardens, 2021; Ripple Across the Water 2021, Watarium, Tokyo; and Say Hello to Strangers, ART GUMMI, Kanazawa, 2021.

Iseo Nose

Photographer, art exhibition organizer, and music critic.

Born in 1947, Iseo Nose has presided over Live House PEPPERLAND since 1974. While developing activities that transcend boundaries, he was involved in editing and writing for Yuzuru Agi’s Rock Magazine from 1983 until the publication ceased. His major exhibitions include Spectacle: Nose Iseo 1968-2004 (2004), a collaborative cultural project between Okayama and Kurashiki City; X-COLOR Graffiti in Japan, which he organized at Art Tower Mito in Ibaraki (2005); The photograph as seen from Goethe morphology at Nagi Museum of Contemporary Art in Okayama (2013); and OPAM x Nose Iseo Theater in Museum at Oita Prefectural Art Museum in Oita (2016). Among other places, Nose has lectured at Art Biotop in Nasu “Shule im Berg (The Mountain School)” (2009–), and Kyoto International Film and Art Festival (2015–). He also formed silver halide photography group, Phenomena (2008–), and opened Bigakko Okayama (2010–), an accredited school of Tokyo’s Bigakko, which has a history of over 50 years. Nose authored many books and critiques, including, Shin Ongaku no Kaisetsu [New Music Decoding] (2013), published by disk union; and ISEO NOSE MORPHOLOGY (2014), a photography collection published by AKAAKA Art Publishing Inc. He received the Fukutake Cultural Award from the Fukutake Education and Culture Foundation in 2018, and his work has been featured in the collection of Keio University Art Center, Tokyo.

Yuu TAKAGI

Yuu TAKAGI is a curator Born in Kyoto in 1994. He graduated from the Graduate School of Global Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts in 2020 and received the Lalus Prize. He is an assistant curator at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa and a curator of The 5th Floor. He is searching for a way of the exhibition as a place of empathy through the practice of sites not bound by the white cube. Recent exhibitions include Le Jardin Convivial, Kyoto Botanical Gardens, 2019; Between two stools, 2020, The 5th Floor, Tokyo; Standing Ovation, ATAMI ART GRANT 2021, Atami, 2021; and APERTO 17 SCAN THE WORLD [NEW GAME], 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, 2022.

東京大学大学院学際情報学府修士課程修了。専門はメディア論、サウンド・スタディーズ。
また、yahyelのメンバーとしてシンセサイザー/プログラミングを担当する傍ら、コンポーザーとしても活動。多数のアーティストへの楽曲提供やプロデュースのほか、ファッションブランドのルックムービーや映画音楽まで幅広く手がける。
また、プロテストレイヴ、D2021といったイベントの企画・運営を通じて社会問題や政治参加に関するメッセージの発信も積極的に行う。
