GASBON METABOLISM is a multipurpose art facility opened in August 2022 on a former factory site spanning 6,000 square meters in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture. As a platform designed to foster ongoing, organic communication, it aims to capture the creativity of the creators involved and revitalize cultural metabolism.
It houses six key functions: a [Residence] where domestic and international artists can stay and create; a [Studio] for production, maintenance, and photography; a [Space] for exhibiting and selling artworks; a [Community] hub that connects the local region with different industries; a [Warehouse] for storing artworks; and a [Lab] for new and experimental initiatives.
The name of the entire facility, “GASBON METABOLISM,” combines “GAS” from GAS AS I/F Co., Ltd. with “BON,” a nod to Velbon Co., Ltd., which previously operated on this site. “Metabolism” refers to the idea of constant renewal and transformation.
