Kenji Sakai
Kenji Sakai (b. 1996, Kyoto) is an artist based in London after working in Tokyo. His practice focuses on the transformations that occur when something intervenes in a space. He is fascinated by how the appearance of a single presence can shift the meaning and orientation of the entire space, generating unexpected tensions and relationships. His works traverse painting, printmaking, and sculpture, and embody three perspectives: the observer who surveys structures, the controller who intervenes to reshape them, and the subject caught within their changes. The balance among these perspectives constantly shifts with his own lived experiences and emotions. By exposing such instability, Sakai attempts to re-examine the relationship between the individual and the collective. He continues to pursue these moments of change through his artistic practice.
